DescriptionTexas State Railroad, moving locomotives.jpg
English: Moving a diesel and steam locomotive to the front of a passenger train for the return trip to Rusk TX. Engine #8 was an early diesel manufactured by an ALCO (American Locomotive Company) /GE partnership in 1953. ALCO were a major manufacturer of steam engines who eventually went out of business after the GE partnership failed. The ALCO MRS-1 model seen here was manufactured for the Army, with the requirement that it be able to operate on gauges of varying size (including the Russian 5 foot gauge, as opposed to the US standard 4 foot, 8 1/2 inch gauge). The design features adjustable trucks to afford this flexibility.
