THE HOUSE WAS OWNED BY THE TAYLOR FAMILY DURING THE REVOLUTION AND THEY WERE TORIES. A GROUP CAME TO COLLECT TAXES AND A SKIRMISH WAS FOUGHT BETWEEN TORIES AND COLONIALS USING BRICKBATS, AXES, HOES, AND BOILING WATER. BRITISH TROOPS STOPPED HERE TWICE BUT SPARED THE HOUSE SINCE THEY WERE WELL TREATED BY A WELL-KNOWN TORY FAMILY This is an image of a place or building that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places in the United States of America. REF. # 87001815 PLEASE NOTE! THIS HOUSE (OR FARM) IS LOCATED NEAR THE JUNCTION OF OLD YORK ROAD AND BORDENTOWN-CHESTERFIELD ROAD ON AN UNMARKED LANE WHICH HAS A SIGN INDICATING "BROOKDALE FARM". HOWEVER THE LANE IS GATED AND LOCKED BUT YOU CAN WALK THE LANE FOR ABOUT A MILE TO VIEW THE HOUSE AS PICTURED HERE.

Notes By KRP = This is the original land purchased for Samuel Taylor by his brother William upon the death of Robert Taylor their Father of Derbyshire England = 1/32 of a share in West Jersey from Geo. Hutchinson . Samuel Taylor ( a Quaker ) in 1677 came on the Flie Boat Martha and settled *Here in what would become Burlington county N.J. at - Chesterfield NJ. 99 years before Americas Declaration of Independence !
