English: Cat I'th'Window This cottage, on the North side of the A5209 has some local notoriety. The plaque reads "Originally a farmhouse with a fine thatched roof, it was burned down in 1901 and later rebuilt. Tradition says that the silhouette cats in the blank windows are successors of the plaster cats originally used in the old days of the early catholic persecution to indicate that a Mass was to be held in nearby Standish Hall, or to warn Catholics that government troops were in the area. Alternatively, they may have been a dairyman's sign." |
