DescriptionStainthorps Market Tavern, Coppergate, York, 1910 - geograph.org.uk - 1475046.jpg
English: Stainthorps Market Tavern, Coppergate, York, 1910. The landlord of this pub was my great-grandfather, Thomas Stainthorp, who is the man in shirtsleeves at the right, the girl beside him is probably my great-aunt Holly.
The building is timber framed and dates from the 16th century, according to the York Archaeological Trust, who surveyed it in 1984 - see http://www.iadb.co.uk/gaz/gaz_details.php?SiteID=317
It was converted to a restaurant in the mid-1980's - see it in 2009 -1475040
The timber framing in the upper floors can easily be seen from inside (with permission of the mangement, as the upper floors are not open to the public).
