Description
English: St Andrew's church - memorial to Prince Frederick Victor Duleep Singh Prince Frederick was born in 1868 as the second son of Maharajah Duleep Singh of the Punjab. He was educated at Eton and Cambridge and had a great interest for all things archaeological, historical and antiquarian. In 1921 he purchased the Ancient House - a 15th century merchant's house - in Thetford and gave it to the town for use as a museum. He lived in Blo Norton Hall, died in 1926, and is buried in Blo' Norton churchyard. St Andrew's church > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1708439 was greatly restored in Victorian times and the only medieval survival is the C14 traceried octagonal font > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1708478. The royal arms > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1708484 has been overpainted and is believed to have originally been for Charles I. The east window is by William Wailes. Outside, the C16 wood-framed porch > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1708455 with carved spandrels is still standing on the north wall.
