Српски / srpski: Матија Бан (1818-1903) је ударио прве чврсте темеље модерној српској обавештајној служби.

Спадао је у круг веома образованих Срба католичког верског опредељења у Дубровнику.
Најзаслужнија је личност за реализацију Гарашанинових националних идеја.
Формално је био шеф прес-бироа и први човек за националну пропаганду Кнежевине Србије (1815-1882), а у стварности је формирао веома добру регионалну тајну (завереничку) организацију и руководио је националном пропагандом и оружаним акцијама у још неослобођеним српским земљама.

Идејни је и идеолошки отац српског четничког покрета и четничке војне организације.
