DescriptionSolidarity With Puerto Rico Rally Chicago Illinois 5-7-18 1445 (41988964652).jpg
About 50 people gathered Monday night May 7th in Federal Plaza in downtown Chicago to rally in support of the beleaguered island of Puerto Rico.
The situation on the island hasn't changed all that much since last year's hurricanes devastated the island and left untold and under counted numbers of people dead.
The power grid still isn't been fully restored. In fact, the grid recently went down again leaving thousands of people in the dark.
FEMA has pretty much deserted the island in a Katrina-like fashion. President Trump apparently has run out of paper towels and no longer cares, if he ever did.
The island is in serious debt to Wall Street. The vulture funds are circling ready to strip the island of everything they can make a profit off of. Austerity and privatization will be the new normal. Schools will close, Social services will be cut. Wages will drop. Pensions will disappear. And the police recently used tear gas against people protesting the situation.
The island remains a colony of the United States. Though the residents are technically citizens, they still don't have the right to vote in elections.
