The eldest son of Sir William Johnson, John Johnson (1741-1830) was a prominent loyalist during the American Revolution. He was an army officer, an Indian Department official, politician, landowner and seigneur. Although he inherited his father's lands and responsibilities in the Mohawk Valley in 1774, he fled to Montreal during the American Revolution and remained there until his death. This miniature was acquired from a member of the Johnson family. /
Fils aîné de sir William Johnson, John Johnson (1741-1830) fut un éminent loyaliste durant la guerre de l’Indépendance américaine. Il fut officier de l'armée, fonctionnaire aux Affaires indiennes, politicien, propriétaire foncier et seigneur. Même s'il hérita des terres et des responsabilités de son père dans la vallée de la Mohawk en 1774, il s'enfuit à Montréal durant la la guerre de l’Indépendance et y demeura jusqu'à sa mort
