English: In the evening of 16 July, General Artúr Görgei decided the retreat of the Hungarian troops from Vác towards Miskolc, but at 4 a.m. the Russian cavalry discovered a gap in the Hungarian defeses around the city, which assured the retreat of the troops. The Russian cavalry units entered in Vác, causing panic, but the counter attack of the detachemnt of Ármin Görgey and the III. corps led by General Leiningen, forced the to retreat, assuring the safety of the retreating troops and civilians.
