Summary

Description
English: Scotswood Railway Station
The cobbled approach to the former station at Scotswood. The station was on the original route of the Newcastle - Carlisle Railway. The first route crossed the river to Blaydon shortly after the station and was opened in 1839 - the two platforms were behind the retaining wall on the right of the image. Two further platforms, at a higher elevation, were constructed behind the wall to the left of the image when the North Wylam loop was opened in 1875. The North Wylam loop platforms closed in 1958, with the station closing completely in 1967. Trains continued to use the line through the station until the closure of Scotswood railway bridge across the Tyne resulted in Newcastle - Carlisle services being diverted via Dunston in 1982.
