Description
English: A young rendering of St John in a green tunic and red cloak, pointing with his left hand to the poisoned chalice he is holding in his right hand, which miraculously enough did not kill him. This legendary deed – which took place in the Temple of Diana in Ephesus – replaces the texts from the Gospel and the Apocalypse, or the eagle with which he might also have been depicted.
