Description
English: Polychromed limestone cartouche on the over-lintel of the British Empire Building that is part of Rockefeller Center, New York City. The cartouche was created by the artist Carl Paul Jennewein. It depicts the British Coat of Arms encircled with the gilded motto of the British chivalric Order of the Garter (and Frensh proverb): "Honi soit qui mal y pense" (Shame on him who thinks evil about it). The bottom of the bas relief is inscribed with the motto of the British Royalty: "Dieu et mon droit" (God and my right).
Deutsch: Flachrelief aus mehrfarbigem Kalkstein über dem Türportal des British Empire Buildings, das Teil des Rockefeller Centers in New York City ist. Das Relief wurde vom Künstler Carl Paul Jennewein geschaffen. Sie zeigt das britische Wappen im Kreis des vergoldeten Mottos des britischen Ritterordens "Order of the Garter" (gleichzeitig ein französisches Sprichwort): "Honi soit qui mal y pense" (Übel ist, wer Böses dabei denkt). Die Kartusche ist mit dem Spruch des britischen Königshauses unterschrieben: "Dieu et mon droit" (Gott und mein Recht).
