As one of the chiefdevelopments of work in tliis room is to improve The average circulation for the past year hasbeen 425 daily. The books are on open shelves,so that the children make their own selections,but there is constant supervision and aid to thosewho desire it. Six regular assistants are in thisdepartment, and they receive aid from the mainlibrary at very busy times. The circulation hasgone as high as 1,325 in a single day. During the past year they have had a numberof special displays of pictures—notably the Cen-tury pictures of original drawings of war articlesin the Century and Hobsons book.
