Summary

Description
English:
Rebels Entrenched at Kilometre Ten, China, 1911
Black and white lantern slide picturing entrenched rebel forces firing at Imperial troops from behind their lines at "kilometre ten" during the 1911 rebellion against the Qing dynasty, from October to December 1911. "Kilometre ten" perhaps refers to the distance from the centre of the city of Hankou, and was a rebel battle station attacked and taken by Qing troops in late October 1911. This slide comes from a collection held by the Church of Scotland and generated by the medical missionary Charles Somerville, who worked for the London Missionary Society in Hankou from 1904 to 1914.
