Summary edit

File information
Description

A page from the Sunday Express newspaper, August 19, 1928.

It is used to illustrate how the Sunday Express campaign against The Well of Loneliness used Radclyffe Hall's photograph, cropped in a certain way, to promulgate a new public image of lesbianism.

It is used to illustrate how Hall's image published in newspapers during the obscenity trial of The Well of Loneliness, helped to form a widespread image of what a lesbian looked like according to Doan, Laura (2001).
