Summary

Description
English: This is an aerial photograph of Stanley Airport taken in the fall of 2018 by Mike Whitehead. The airfield was built in 1940-1941 for the Royal Canadian Air Force as part of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. The familiar triangular pattern of the original WW II runways is clearly visible, as is the WW II treeline. The view is to the southeast. Stanley was home to No. 17 Elementary Flying Training School, which was managed by the Halifax Flying Club. No. 17 EFTS provided ab initio flying instruction. The school opened in March 1941 and closed in January 1944. This photograph is used with permission of Mike Whitehead. The date of the photograph is an estimate.
