Description

Diagram of Mk I percussion nose fuze for British QF 1 pounder explosive shell.
Height approximately 28 mm, width 22 mm (widest), 10.5 mm (narrowest).

Action : On shock of discharge, the split collar sets back over the pellet, thus unmasking the detonator; on impact the pellet and collar are thrown violently forward and the needle pierces the detonator, thus firing it. The flash from the detonator and powder in the pellet passes through the fire-hole and ignites the bursting charge in the shell.
