Olav Heggstad (1877 - 1954), uteksaminert fra Fagavdelingen for Ingeniørvesen ved Trondhjems Tekniske Læreanstalt (TTL) i 1896, videreutdannet seg innen vannkraftutbygging og elektroteknikk ved Technische Hochschule Dresden. Jobbet en stund for Siemens & Halske i Tyskland, ble så ansatt i Norsk Hydro i forbindelse med utbyggingen av Norsk Hydros fabrikkanlegg på Rjukan og kraftstasjonen på Vemork. Heggstad underviste i vassbygging ved NTH og var rektor ved skolen i to omganger; første gang 1929 - 1933 og andre gang 1942 - 1945.

I følge Trondhjems Tekniske Læreanstalts karakterprotokoller var Olav Heggstad født 05.04.1877 i Namsos; sønn av skolebestyrer i Steinkjer Christopher Marius Hægstad og Pernille f. Midgard. Han tok middelskoleeksamen (engelsklinjen) ved Namsos skole i 1892 med hovedkarakter 1,17. Samme år ble han tatt opp som student ved TTL hvor han gikk fagavdelingen for Ingeniørvesen. Han ble uteksaminert 30 juli 1896 med snittkarakter 1,45.
