DescriptionPortpatrick railway station (site), Dumfries & Galloway (geograph 6163047).jpg
English: Portpatrick railway station (site), Dumfries & Galloway Opened in 1862 by the Portpatrick Railway as the terminus of what became the Portpatrick & Wigtownshire Joint Railway from Castle Douglas, this station closed in 1950. The railway line was known as 'The Port Road'.
View north east towards the buffers from the former track-bed, now Old Station Court. The platform and wooden building would have been on the left. For a short while, a branch line ran steeply down to the harbour with trains having to reverse here. The scheme for ferries to Ireland was not a success and the harbour branch closed in 1868.
