Summary

Description
English: Place, Place Road, Fowey Originally built in 1260, when it was owned by the Boniface family (lords of the manor). Acquired by the Treffrey family by marriage in 1326. Rebuilt in the 15C. Additions by Joseph T Treffrey, an energetic industrial developer, between 1813 and 1845 leave little of the old house untouched, and include a tall 19C granite tower. There is an early 16C bay window, of two stories, in the courtyard. The Porphyry Hall of 1841-3, above the library, is a showpiece. The house is still (1970) occupied by the family and is not open to the public.
