Summary

Description
English: Peroxisomal protein targeting to the matrix. (1) PTS1 sequence in a cytosolic protein binds to PEX5. (2) PEX5 with bound protein forms a complex with peroxisome membrane protein PEX14, releasing the protein into the matrix (3). The unbound PEX5 complexed with PEX14 becomes ubiquitinylated by PEX2/PEX12/PEX10 membrane complex (4). Followed by ATP dependent removal of PEX5 via cytosolic PEX1/PEX6 complex. The cycle is free to continue in importing proteins targeted to the peroxisomal matrix.
