Description
English: This image shows a boulder of Ortega Formation weathered from outcrops near Ancones, New Mexico, USA. This is a clean quartzite with minor magnetite banding. The Ortega Formation of the Hondo Group has an age by detrital zircon geochronology of around 1680 million years, and is thought to have been deposited in the Pilar Basin during the Yavapai Orogeny.
