Summary

Description The old Cruso School was built in 1928 to serve the Cruso community along US Highway 276 between Waynesville and the Blue Ridge Parkway. The building was used for Elementary students up until 1966, when it was closed following a massive district-wide consolidation that saw the opening of Tuscola High School and Pisgah High School, the closing of the old High School programs at Bethel, Fines Creek, Crabtree-Iron Duff, Waynesville, Canton, and Reynolds, the closing of the Junior High Programs at Fines Creek, Crabtree-Iron Duff, and Reynolds, and the closing of the Elementary programs at Cruso, Saunook, Allens Creek, Reynolds, and Pigeon Street. Today, along with the school at Pigeon Street, the building is well-preserved and in use as a community center.
