English: Olakkaneeswary Temple on top of Mahishasuramardini cave. British had used this temple as a lighthouse before another was built in 1900. Lights were used to aid mariners since the 7th century at this place. Mahabalipuram was a major port during the reign of the Pallavas. മലയാളം: മഹിഷാസുരമർദ്ദിനി ഗുഹയ്ക്കു മുകളിൽ സ്ഥാപിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള ഒലക്കണീശ്വരി ക്ഷേത്രം. ബ്രിട്ടീഷുകാർ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം ആദ്യം വിളക്കുമാടമായി ഉപയോഗിച്ചിരുന്നു. 1900-ൽ പുതിയ വിളക്കുമാടം പണിഞ്ഞ ശേഷം ദീപം അവിടെ സ്ഥാപിച്ചു. 7-ആം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിൽ പല്ലവന്മാരുടെ കീഴിൽ മഹാബലിപുരം തിരക്കുള്ള തുറമുഖനഗരമായിരുന്നു. അക്കാലത്തും പാറയ്ക്കു മുകളിൽ തീ കൂട്ടിയും മറ്റും ഇവിടെ നാവികരെ സഹായിക്കുന്ന ദീപങ്ങൾ ഉപയോഗിച്ചിരുന്നുവത്രേ. |
