Description
English: Composite photo of President Richard M. Nixon, intended to simulate his telephone call to astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin at "Tranquility Base" on the Moon. The image displayed at the "Great Images in NASA" page is not authentic; that is a composite of Nixon on the phone, with a shot of the astronauts adjusting the US flag, which they did before he called. This is an authentic television split-screen shot taken during the actual phone call.

The President: "... For one priceless moment in the history of man, all of the people on this Earth are truly one, one in their pride in what you have done and one in our prayers that you will return safely to Earth."

Astronaut Armstrong: "...Thank You, Mr. President. It's a great honor and privilege for us to be here representing not only the United States, but men of peace of all nations, with an intrest and curiosity, and men with a vision for the future. It's an honor for us to be able to participate here today."
