Description 05/31/57 - Laboratories mice, in special aluminum and plastic cages, are placed in an aluminum Blast shield box. Dr. Donald Ott (right) of the Bio-Medical Research Group at Los Alamos NM Scientific Laboratory, is ready to seal the box as Miss Sara Beth Hawkins, also of LASL, places the second exposure cage. The blast resistant device is ventilated by a fan in the pipe (in background). Batteries (out of view to the left) operate the fan. The mice, protected against blast, heat and shock, were placed at various distances from ground zero during Franklin to test exposure to radiation.
