Summary

Description
English: Diagram of the main muscles of forceful inhalation and exhalation.Muscles indicated in red are contracting, the blue ones are relaxing. The arrows show the direction of movement of the Thoracic wall (including the diaphragm). Breathing at rest differs from the current illustration in that the movement of the rib cage is less pronounced during both inhalation and exhalation, and the abdominal muscle do not contract during exhalation - they return to their resting position by means of their own elasticity and that of the abdominal contents
