Description
English: Two male sika deer (Cervus nippon) on Miyajima (now Itsukushima), Japan. Sika deer are populous on the island and can be found roaming freely. The UNESCO World Heritage Site Itsukushima Shrine stands off the island, making it a popular tourist destination. Shika deer have become habituated to humans and walk alongside humans on the beach, souvenir shops, and inland paths. Deer often allow humans to approach and even touch them despite sign throughout the island asking visitors to not touch or get near them. Photographed on Itsukushima Island, Japan.
