Summary

Description

This is a General Electric 45 ton switcher built in 1943 for the American Navy. It is now part of the Mid-Continent Railway Museum collection in the town of North Freedom, Wisconsin.

The railroad ballast on the ground is crushed Baraboo Quartzite, which is ~1.7 billion years old (Paleoproterozoic). It comes from a nearby quarry in the Baraboo Ranges of southern Wisconsin.
