Data originates from Statistics Iceland as published online for the period of 1990 and later (http://statice.is/Statistics/Population/Religious-organizations) and in the periodical Hagtíðindi for 1973-1989. Data for 1975 appears never to have been published. The 1967 data point comes from a newspaper article.[1] The data is as follows: #Year Bahá'í Pagan Buddh. The Buddhist figures combine the figures for the Buddhist Association of Iceland (since 1995), Zen in Iceland (since 1999) and SGI in Iceland (since 2008). The Muslim figures combine the figures for the Muslim Association of Iceland (since 1997) and the Muslim Cultural Centre in Iceland (since 2009). For these purposes I've counted Jehovah's Witnesses, the LDS Church and the Unification Church as Christian sects. That's probably something of a stretch for the last one but their presence is small and including them would clutter the chart a bit. They numbered 4 in 2006 and 2007, they numbered 17 in 2008 and 19 in 2009. |
