Deutsch: Die Vorderseite zeigt ein Porträt Böttigers im Profil nach links. Die umlaufende lateinische Legende nennt seinen Namen und sein Alter von 70 Jahren. Unterhalb des Porträts steht in latinisierter Form das Datum des 70. Geburtstags. Auf dem Hals befindet sich die Signatur des Medailleurs Karl Reinhard Krüger.
Die Rückseite zeigt einen alten Mann, der auf einem umgedrehten Kapitell sitzt und in eine nachdenkliche Pose verfallen ist. Ihm gegenüber sitzt auf einem Altar eine kleine Sphinx mit erhobener rechter Pfote. Umgeben werden sie von weiteren Antiken. Die lateinische Legende "Geschickt darin Altes mit Neuem zu verbinden" kann als Auszeichnung Böttigers in seiner Arbeit verstanden werden. Unterhalb des Bildes befindet sich ein altgriechischer Ausspruch des Glückwunsches.
English: The front side depicts a bust of Böttiger surrounded by his name and age (70). Below the bust the date of his 70th birthday is given. The signature of the engraver Karl Reinhard Krüger has been placed upon the neck.
The back side shows an old man reclining upon a reversed capital depicted in a thoughtful pose. On the other side upon an alter a small sphinx is to be found. This scene is enriched by the Latin inscription "skilful upon combining the old with the new" and more ancient objects. An ancient Greek congratulation is placed below the scene. |
