Summary

Description

Chalcosyrphus eunotus is rarely-observed honeybee-mimicking hoverfly depending on submerged woody debris in small forested rivers and brooks. Due to its life-cycle and early flying period this species is likely to be under-recorded. The picture is showing a male that is aggressively defending its territory against other (insect) intruders.

This is one of the first Belgian records for this species outside of the Ardennes !
