Summary

Description
English: MPCS (Micro-Processor-Controlled Stitcher) 'AUTOSCAN' automatic decorative stitcher for shoe-upper components was the first and only BUSM machine incorporating machine vision.

In 'teach' mode, a shoe component is inserted in the rollers of the carriage where the silhouette is scanned by the camera above and the details are stored on disk. The decorative stitching design for that component is then taught to the machine using a joystick, and is saved with the shape details.

In 'operate' mode, any of the shoe-upper components that have been taught to the machine can be fed, with any orientation, into the rollers of the carriage when the component will be recognised, its stitch design read from disk and stitched in the correct position under the sewing head. The rollers provide y-direction positioning and sideways movement of the whole carriage gives x-positioning.
