Lydia_Cecilia_Hill_Daily_Express_1938.jpg(304 × 488 pixels, file size: 58 KB, MIME type: image/jpeg)

Description

A poor-quality reproduction of a newspaper image of Lydia Cecilia Hill (1913-1940) from a front-page Daily Express article dated May 26 1938. The article is titled "Dance girl and sultan romance". She was a favourite of the Sultan of Johor from 1934 to 1940. The pose may indicate an engagement photograph, as Miss Hill is wearing Johor national dress and apparently showing an engagement ring.

The image has been microfilmed then scanned (or photocopied then scanned) for the online archive; the microfilm process accounts for the poor quality.
