Summary

Description
English: Diagram of the characteristic E-field enhancement profiles experienced in thin photovoltaic films (thickness t_PV) patterned with front features. Two simultaneous optical mechanisms can cause light-trapping: anti-reflection and scattering; and two main spectral regions can be distinguished for each mechanism, at short and long wavelengths, thus leading to the 4 types of absorption enhancement profiles illustrated here across the absorber region. The main geometrical parameter of the photonic structures influencing the absorption enhancement in each profile is indicated by the black arrows.
