Summary

Liberty Head 20 dollar gold piece 1869

The 1869 Liberty Head double eagle $20 gold piece is scarce; Fewer than 870,000 were minted and far fewer survive today. The coins were minted at the San Francisco mint. Gold coins were commonly used in the West. $20 was a lot of money in the 1860s, and as such these coins were mainly used during large transactions, very often involving banking transactions.
