Summary

Description
English: Leycesteria formosa: a cultivated plant growing in a flower bed in the village of Paxton in the Scottish Borders. The thick, grey roots (rhizomes?) have been exposed by wind-rock from the 110mph winds of Storm Arwen, which nearly wrenched the shrub from the ground. Visible above the roots, mature, grey, woody trunks and a young, pink-and-green, hollow (fistular) stem. Such hollow stems, when broken, produce eerie whistling sounds in the wind - whence the Chinese common name, which translates as "Ghost Flute".
