Summary edit

  • Subject: Lady bird spider
  • Photographer: Martin Koster
  • Date: May 2006
  • Description: Spotted this spider in Dodoni, Greece. It seems to be a rare species.

This is possibly Eresus cinnaberinus, which also occurs in Greece. It is distinct from E. walckenaerius (which also occurs in Greece) by the red hairs on the legs and the white linings of the black spots. In any case, it is not Eresus sandaliatus, which never has red hairs on its legs, although this species does have 6 spots instead of three. --Sarefo 14:41, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
