La Loge a été présentée à la première exposition impressionniste de 1874. Les personnages sont Edmond, le frère de l'artiste et Nini Lopez un modèle. Les personnages très bien habillés sont à l'opéra ou au théâtre mais regardent les autres spectateurs plutôt que la scène ou sont regardés comme la jeune femme.
Samuel Courtauld a acheté ce tableau en 1925 au marchand Durand-Ruel.
