English: Knaresborough: strange signalbox and early DMU, 1976.
View SW from the end of the platform, towards Starbeck, Harrogate and Leeds: ex-NER Leeds - Harrogate - York/Pilmoor lines. The line to Pilmoor had been closed to passengers since 15/9/58 (to goods 3/5/65), but the Leeds - Harrogate - York line remained. This was one of the earliest local passenger services to be provided with DMUs and here a Class 101 Derby 3-car unit is arriving from Harrogate and Leeds, past the extraordinary signalbox which is incorporated in a house just above the River Nidd. (My son and daughter just happened to be in this picture).
