Fair use rationale edit

This image is used in the article King's Quest I: Quest for the Crown and consists of a screenshot of the eponymous game, illustrating its general graphical appearance. The image is used in an informative way in the respective article and used to document the game as a whole. Though its resolution has not been reduced with respect to the original (this would hardly be possible, considering how low it is in the first place), it represents a minuscule fraction of the game's artwork and would not interfere with the publisher's ability to turn profit—even if this game were anything other than a historical curiosity.

Furthermore, no version of the game is any longer available for sale from the publisher or anywhere else (it can only be found on abandonware sites, where it is widely distributed, seemingly without legal menace from the publisher). This is not expected to change in the future. It is therefore certain that the publisher cannot derive any profit from the game, whether at the present or any time in the future, except incidentally by capitalizing on its celebrity.

The image is not replaceable by a free image (except by waiting for another 45 years or so), since it is meant to illustrate the artwork of a game that is, itself, non-free.

Under this rationale this image could be primarily used in the article describing the game in question, and secondarily in any other article regarding the publisher or the historical context of the game in question.
