Object history This and other two drawings (Hamlet of the Shtchigri District and The Peasant Proprietor Ovsyanikov) were discovered pasted in the first one-book editions of A Sportsman's Sketches belonged to Nikolay Shchepkin (1850–1914), the steward of Ivan Turgenev’s landed property in 1876–1880. Shchepkin made an inscription on a flyleaf of the book: “Ivan Sergeevich Turgenev told me personally that the drawings in this book were of his own work. N. Shchepkin. This book was given me personally by Ivan Sergeevich Turgenev in 1880. Nikolay Shchepkin. 10 February 1903.”
