Description
English: Portrait of the artist John Francis Rigaud at his easel in his studio, with his wife and children.
It depicts the artist, John Francis Rigaud, sitting in a chair before a blank canvas, his wife, Mary Williams, to the left holding their infant son Stephen (Stephen Francis Dutilh Rigaud) on her lap with their daughter Betsy to the right and their infant daughter Mary in a cradle to the left. Rigaud is in the act of beginning a painting on the canvas before him, proudly tilting his painter's palette towards the viewer and dipping his brush into the paint.
