DescriptionJennie and Terrie Frankel perform at The Comedy Store - late 1970s.jpg
English: In 1977-78 Jennie and Terrie Frankel (Doublemint Twins) performed comedy, singing and playing guitar and accordion at The Comedy Store in Hollywood and also Westwood, California. Owner Mitzi Shore billed the twins as "The Adorable Frankel Twins." Jennie and Terrie were responsible for getting David Letterman his first job writing for Johnny Carson's Tonight Show, by introducing David to comedian Joey Bishop (member of The Rat Pack) who needed a comedy writer to write for him when he substitute hosted for Johnny Carson. Until that first big break, David Letterman, fresh from being a weatherman at a local TV station in Indianapolis, Indiana, was earning $25 per night, introducing comedians at The Comedy Store - along with fellow newcomer Jay Leno. David was grateful to the twins for the connection at the time, but has since written Jennie and Terrie and Joey Bishop out of his history (see book Tales From the Casting Couch, Dove Books 1995)... Joey Bishop, who performed with Jennie and Terrie with the USO in Vietnam in 1968, wrote some of the twins Comedy routines for their performances at The Comedy Store.
