Description About 5 minutes before and for 5 min after the total part of the eclipse there is a an optical effect called the "Japanese Lantern" where the moon is banded in red, yellow, purple, and blue. This image was taken during the eclipse of April 15, 2014 at about 2:02 am CT in New Braunfels, Texas.
