Коментар упорядника видання «Историческіе дѣятели Юго-Западной Россіи въ біографіяхъ и портретахъ», Володимира Беца:

Остальные портреты коллекціи Тарновскаго въ настоящій выпускъ, срисованы съ миніатюрныхъ изображеній гетмановъ, помѣщенныхъ въ извѣстной лѣтописи Величка, находящейся въ Императорской Публичной Библіотекѣ. Они сдѣланы съ этихъ изображеній по заказу В. В. Тарновскаго въ настоящую величину маслянными красками извѣстнымъ художникомъ Васько, бывшимъ преподавателемъ рисованія въ Университетѣ Св. Владиміра. Если въ этихъ портретахъ, въ чертахъ лица, есть нѣкоторое выраженіехарактера каждой личности, которое повидимому отсутствуетъ въ миніатюрахъ Велички, то въ этомъ нельзя упрекнуть покойнаго художника, художественное око котораго могло прозрѣть такую черту въ миніатюрномъ рисункѣ, которая невидима глазу обыкновеннаго зрителя. Такимъ образомъ, эти портреты можно считать наиболѣе вѣрными съ ихъ старинными подлинниками, они составляютъ unica въ живописи.
