English: A luohan, or arhat, in Sanskrit, is a disciple of the Buddha, who strives to preserve the Buddha's teaching. This figure was commissioned by several married couples and a monk in order to wish plentiful harvest and joy to the Huojia county in Weihui prefecture, Henan province, in north-central China. From the People's Republic of China. Ming Dynasty, 1494 CE. On display at the British Museum in London.
