File:Instantaneous (wrapped) phase; one 360° plot stacked 3 times vertically.jpg

Summary

Description
English: Instantaneous phase of a frequency-modulated waveform: MSK (minimum shift keying). A 360° "wrapped" plot is simply replicated vertically two more times, creating the illusion of an unwrapped plot, using only 3x360° of the vertical axis. The first (of 3) segments is just filtered noise, prior to signal turn-on. The next (repetitious) segment provides timing information for a demodulator. And the 3rd section is the beginning of actual random data (message) to be transmitted.
