Assurance Company of London wasprojected by merchants and bankerstowards the close of 1807, at WillsCoffee House in Cheapside. The Atlasopened its office for business on Mid-summer Day, 1808. Six weeks later thefirst loss occurred. The amount claimedwas paid in full. The Sun of April 12, 1808, con-tained an advertisement of the closeof the Atlas subscription. It was an-nounced that the office would be opened Reference was made to the respecta-bility, capital, and connexions of thepresent share-holders.
