Hieland Furnace is a Close Grey Iron Furnace located on Scott Drive/Township Road 577 in Highland Township, Clarion County, Pa.; It was built in 1845 on farmland owned by Alasdair MacNaughton, a new immigrant and native Scot/Gaelic speaker. The Furnace is 32' high, 30' across, 8' Bosh and had a 1,500 Ton Capacity. GPS = N41 17.160 W079 19.250. Area residents are descendents from the Isle of Skye, here are some of the local Surnames: Cameron, Frazer, Gilmore, Johnston, Kerr, Leith, MacCleary, MacCord, MacDonald, MacGuirk, MacKinsey, MacKissick, MacLaine, MacNaughton, Simpson, Thompson, Watson and Young. Hieland Furnace is 6 Miles North of Clarion and 4 Miles South of Scotch Hill, Pa. The Clarion County Sheriff's Truck has typical markings of a Pennsylvania Sheriff's vehicle. The Pa. Sheriff is an elected official and is the Chief Law Enforcement Officer of their County. The Pa. Sheriff has full Law Enforcement powers to enforce State Law with Vehicle Law and Crimes Code. The amount of Powers and duties will vary County by County. The Village of Hieland Furnace is spelled today as Helen Furnace and is pronounced Hieland.}}
